Top 7 Shows You Should Be Watching (if you aren’t already)

Over the past two years I started giving t.v. a chance once again. Reason being that it seemed like the only thing that was on was “reality” television. But the shows on this list prove that television can be great, in fact better than most movies.

#7 Community on NBCAn ensemble cast that would make John Hughes cream his jockey's

Let’s face it, The Office sucks now. Steve Carell is getting beyond annoying at this point. Thank god Joel McHale and Donald Glover came in to Save NBC last year. Currently in it’s second season It keeps getting better. Basically The Breakfast Club of this generation, it centers on Jeff Winger (McHale) who has to go back to school after his law degree is found out to be “Less than legitimate”. While trying to woo a girl from his Spanish class named Britta (Gillian Jacobs) by telling her he has a Spanish study group. Word gets out about said study group and instead of just studying with Britta, he finds himself in charge of an actual study group. Hilarity ensues.

Community airs on NBC Thursday nights @7p.m. central

#6 The Green Room with Paul Provenza on ShowtimeComodians

An ever changing cast of comedians sitting in the middle of a room having honest conversation while being spectated by other comedians. It’s so simple and one of the funniest things on television at the moment. Host Paul Provenza was not a name I was familiar with until I saw this show, but he holds the show together well and with little effort. Sometimes conversation can get heated especially when alcohol is involved, but for the most part it’s just fucking funny.

Currently there are no new episodes airing but right now there are about four episodes on Showtime on demand.

#5 Californication on Showtime

Hank Moody and the people he tortures

Showtime has several shows in which the central character is…well just a shitty person all together. Of all of these though Hank Moody (David Duchovny) is the most likable shitty person. His relationship with his daughter and baby momma are constantly strained because of his sexual promiscuity, alcohol and drug use, and writers block. It starts out bad and gets way worse in the first episode when Hank unknowingly fucks a sixteen year old, and that sixteen year old’s father is getting married to the mother of Hanks daughter. It makes since.

Season 4 of Californication premiers January 9th @ 8p.m. central

#4 Ugly Americans on Comedy Central

The spot following South Park on Comedy Central has been home to several fallen shows for obvious reasons. Most of the shows put in this time spot were just was too weak to keep viewers paying attention after a premiere episode of South Park. Ugly Americans has broken the mold. Not only is it funny, but it’s full of under-lying social commentary and has got to be the best animation currently airing. Anyone who is a fan of Superjail would have to appreciate this.

#3 Louie on Fx

Finally things are falling into place for good ol’ Louis C.K. The format of this show completely fits his personality. With every episode you don’t know if you’re going to laugh or if you’re going to feel really bad about yourself. It’s something that I’ve never seen in a show before, actually confusing the audience about what kind of program they’re watching but still being entertaining.

FX has picked up a second season of Louie that they are currently filming. You can watch episodes from the first season here :http://vod.fxnetworks.com/watch/louie

#2 Walking Dead

It’s a series about zombies. Why aren’t you watching it

#1 Breaking Bad

Walter White (Bryan Cranston) has cancer and can’t afford to pay for treatment on his salary as a chemistry teacher. Logically he decides to use his vast knowledge of chemistry to make the purest and most incredible crystal meth in the world. Unfortunately Walter soon finds out that being a criminal is a little more complicated than he originally thought. Cranston is amazing in every episode and doesn’t make it hard to see why he’s won an Emmy for ‘Best Lead Actor in a Drama Series’ for every season it’s been on. He’s not alone though, Aaron Paul who plays White’s partner in crime Jessie Pinkman shines through in aiding Walter in his bad decisions , also Ann Gunn plays White’s wife Skylar and you pretty much end up hating her for having the right morals. Breaking Bad is one of those rare shows in that when every episode ends you immediately have to watch the following episode. Just to support my case, here’s a link to all the shit they’ve won or been nominated for: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Breaking_Bad#Reception

Breaking Bad returns with it’s fourth season in July of 2011

*Honorable Mention- Party Down (R.I.P.)

The biggest tragedy since Arrested Development.

The Awkward Inconvenience of Having Feelings

I wanted to but I didn’t.

I chose not to for both our benefits

You lied to me.

That wasn’t the way you felt about me.

But you made me feel like I did something wrong.

A feeling that I still have.

Congratulations,

It’s still awkward.
